What Is a DUI Clinical Evaluation?
In Georgia, a DUI Clinical Evaluation is a mandatory assessment for individuals charged with DUI, Drug Possession, Boating Under the Influence (BUI), or other substance-related driving offenses. This evaluation must be completed by a DBHDD-approved professional and is required before enrolling in DUI School (Risk Reduction Program) or seeking driver’s license reinstatement.
The purpose of the evaluation is to:
- Assess the extent of an individual's alcohol or drug use
- Determine if a substance use disorder may be present
- Recommend appropriate next steps, such as education or treatment
This evaluation includes:
- A confidential one-on-one interview
- A review of your substance use history, legal background, and driving record
- Use of standardized screening tools as required by DBHDD
- A determination of your ASAM Level of Care, which helps identify the appropriate level of intervention
When Is a DUI Evaluation Required?
A DUI Evaluation for alcohol or drugs is often required for:
- License reinstatement through the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)
- Court or probation compliance
- Enrollment in the Risk Reduction Program (DUI School)
- Charges involving DUI, drug possession, or BUI
